Virtual Happy Hour – Old Tom gin

Old Tom Gin is a sweeter, less botanical version of the gin you all know and (some) love. Join us as we explore three cocktails made with this old-timey spirit!

Rothko No. 1

This Negroni-inspired cocktail becomes much velvetier and soft when you switch out to an Old Tom Gin.

  • 2 ounces Old Tom Gin
  • 2 ounces Carpano Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth
  • 2 ounces Campari
  • 1 lemon peel
  • tonic water

In a rocks glass, add the Old Tom Gin, vermouth, and Campari. Stir well and fill the rocks glass with ice. Top with the tonic water, then gently stir. Twist the lemon over the top and serve.

The Casino

A classic Old Tom Gin cocktail with lemon, bitters, and maraschino.

  • 2 ounces Old Tom Gin
  • 1/4 oz. maraschino liqueur
  • 1/4 oz. lemon juice
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters

In a shaker glass combine gin, maraschino liqueur, lemon juice and bitters. Shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a cherry.

The Ampersand Cocktail

  • 1 oz. Old Tom Gin
  • 1 oz. Cognac
  • 1 oz. sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes orange bitters

Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Stir until well chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled coup glass and serve immediately ungarnished.

The sweet and subtle floral notes of Old Tom Gin pair really nicely with citrus and fish. To go along with our cocktails this evening, we’ll be whipping up Fish and Chips!
