Born in 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Allan L. Edmunds is an artist and educator, master printmaker, mentor, advocate and innovator dedicated to the advancement of multiculturalism in the arts. In 1972, Edmunds founded the Brandywine Workshop and Archives, in Philadelphia, as an arts outreach program for young adults and collaborative workshop for diverse artists. As interim director of the virtual Institute for Inclusion, Diversity and Equity in Education and the Arts, Edmunds has spent over a decade developing the Artura.org online database for diverse contemporary art. His deep commitment to education has garnered many accolades as he continues to forge a path for artists of color into the 21st century.
His work is included in the permanent collections of the African American Museum in Philadelphia; Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Harvard University Museums in Cambridge, MA; University of Texas-Austin; and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He is a former Getty Museum Management Fellow and Senior Research Associate in printmaking and computer graphics at the South Glamorgan School of Art, Cardiff, Wales. His personal archives are housed at the Charles L. Blockson Collection at Temple University, Philadelphia.
200 Years was printed by the Brandywine Workshop to celebrate the historic election of President Barack Obama in 2008.
