Herb Snitzer (1932-2022) was a visual historian who spent his life documenting the world around him with an overriding commitment to dignity and respect for all. Famous for his visually stunning and intimate photographs of New York jazz musicians in the 1950s and early 1960s, he spent nearly 70 years photographing people from all walks of life and all social strata always with the intent to capture the struggles and the joys of the people around him.

For the last thirty years Snitzer called St. Petersburg home and was at the forefront of art in the Tampa Bay area. Robin O’Dell, former Curator of the Photographic Collection at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, FL, curated a major exhibition of his work at the MFA in 2018 that then traveled to New York, and will share an overview of his body of work for the LRMA on May 11th at 6:00 p.m.
