ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Jim Hagenbuckle’s work expresses a subjective response to landscape, with specific focus on American
landscape. His creative process in making a painting is a slow one, with much revision. He destroys and
restores the surfaces of a painting to discover older passages of paint. In this process, the painting gains a unique identity. He continues in dialog with the work leading to a conclusion that the painting is finished.
He subscribes to no specific historical painting “style” or aesthetic.
