Join us in the LRMA Interactive Gallery on November 8th at 6pm as we welcome artist Marjorie Greene Graff.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Marjorie Greene Graff’s work consists of monoprints utilizing traditional printmaking techniques such as relief printing and silkscreen. She also incorporates stencils and gauche. Each print starts with a floral reference and goes through many stages of development where flowers, roots, branches and leaves appear and disappear. Layering and concealing are in constant flux.
Her images of flowers represent both femininity and hope as well as a strong graphic image. The influence of past feminists such as Miriam Shapiro and the graphic of ceramicist Betty Woodman has been influential in her work.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
“To marvel is the beginning of knowledge, and not to marvel, the first step toward ignorance.” So said the Greeks. My teaching objectives were many. I wished to share my enthusiasm for the subject I have studied and worked in for over 40 years. I always wanted to install a desire to learn more in my subject area and to be a role model for my students. Advances in technology, nontoxic medium, safer studios and multicultural student body at SPC all encouraged and supported my desire to offer challenging and relevant assignments to my classes.
Professionally, I continue to develop my own work. Maturity and experience have given me insights into image making. And yes, I still marvel!
Marjorie Greene Graff’s work will be on view September 16 – December 17 in the 2023 SPC Visual Arts Exhibition located in the North and South Galleries.
