The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art welcomes visiting Japanese artists Scara Abe (ink painting), Munenori Takeda (Noh Theater Master), and Kuoto Imbe (Tea Master) for two special events on February 19 and 21, 2026.
Japanese Festival – Thursday, February 19th:
Join us on Thursday, February 19th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm for an afternoon of Japanese culture featuring activities and demonstrations by visiting artists. In the Fine Arts Lobby, learn about Japanese origami, brush painting, tattooing, ikebana, SPC’s study abroad programs, and more!
At 2:00 pm in LRMA’s Interactive Gallery, experience the Japanese traditions of ink painting, Noh theater, and tea with the visiting artists:
Munenori Takeda will demonstrate the traditional Noh theater performance and chanting. Scara Abe, and Kuoto Imbe
Scara Abe returns to LRMA to show her hand-painted sumi-e kimonos and how they are worn.
Kuoto Imbe will talk about the traditional Japanese tea ceremony and its history.
Performance – Saturday, February 21st
Join us for a special collaborative performance by the artists “The Feathered Robe of the Celestial Maiden (Hagoromo)” on Saturday, February 21st at 2:00 pm. Check our website calendar for details. Not to be missed!
