In paint and mixed media, Dolores Coe constructs works of invented spaces and narratives populated by references to landscape and its inhabitants–the iconic, cultural, and the everyday. Lost Worlds debuts Coe’s Passage series as an exploration into what she views as child/hood/scapes. The central “characters” are derived from family photos shared during the isolation of COVID. Children and the dynamic tensions of childhood as subject are seen as fragments of space/time/experience. She seeks to propel them out of stereotypical renderings and into the complexity of experience.
