RECONTEXTUALIZING THE ATLAS: Five Decades of Barton Gilmore

August 24 – December 15, 2024
James W. Mitchell, Jr. Gallery

This retrospective exhibition celebrates artist and SPC professor Barton L. Gilmore. As the Department Chair of Photography for more than 33 years, Gilmore has shaped generations of young artists. Highlighting more than 70 photographic and mixed media works, this exhibition delves into the profound connection between Gilmore’s practice in photography, the influences that have shaped his career and his role as an educator. For Gilmore, photography is more than a mode of creative expression; it is a conduit for exchange, growth, and recontextualization of knowledge.
