The Hurricane Within: Vibrancy and Resilience of Hispanic Heritage

The Hurricane Within: Vibrancy and Resilience of Hispanic Heritage

September 9 – December 17, 2023

Lothar and Mildred Uhl Works on Paper Gallery

Each year from September 15th through October 15th, the United States celebrates Hispanic Heritage month. It begins September 15th to commemorate the Independence Day of five Latin American Countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. Additionally, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16th and 18th. It is important to remember that the history of the Caribbean, Central and South America is not a singularity, but rather a multifaceted, multi-ethnic story that spans thousands of years. To quantify this experience under one umbrella is not just unthinkable, but completely impossible. While this message is not limited to the confines of our museum, LRMA commemorates this month with reverence to Hispanic arts and culture that have shaped the fabric of our society in the United States.
