In 2020, the SPC Foundation, and Leepa Rattner Museum of Art, noticed the Tampa Bay creative community had space for emerging curators to put together shows in coffee shops, bars, and businesses, but no museum in our area helped young professionals earn experience that will helps them grow curatorially – and that’s where the concept of CoCurate | 244 came in.
CoCurate 244 is a collaborative space for curators to showcase exhibits in a gallery that finds its identity somewhere between museums and local establishments. Here, we hope you enjoy the work of emerging, and professional, curators as they excel in their careers, and showcase art made by working artists from around the globe.
CoCurate 244 is a satellite gallery of the Leepa Rattner Museum of Art and sponsored by the SPC Foundation.

Curator’s Choice curated by Diana Bryson
(From the curator) The idea of Curator’s Choice has been living in my “exhibition ideas” folder for quite some time now and I am so excited to see it come to light.
This is an exhibition that brings together Tampa Bay curators – independent and institutionally affiliated – to highlight the work of artists we love, and the work we do. In bringing together this group, I hope to encourage further collaboration among curators of all levels.
Curator’s Choice will be on view January 10th – June 6th in CoCurate 224, located on the second floor of St. Petersburg College downtown. You can visit the exhibition during normal school hours.

Then & Now curated by Lilly Getgen
(From the curator) Then & Now presents artists’ work from the beginning of their practice paralleled with their current artwork. This is with aims of explicitly ex- ploring the development of one’s own artwork through style, and medium.
Inspired by Lillian Getgen’s interest in seeing an artist’s journey, she wanted to see where they started compared with where they are presently — in their artistic development. Then & Now examines the first artwork created when someone contemplates becoming an artist and considers the amount of time it takes for an artist to feel secure with their abilities. The viewer is then able to ponder the amount of time it takes for an artist to create their work which forages a blossoming career. After viewing Then & Now, Lillian urges her audience to anticipate what is to come from each artist moving forth. She hopes all to leave feeling excited for the artist’s journey to continue, as the journey of creation may never end.

Genesis 2021: New Beginnings curated by Bella Pozo.
(From the curator) Genesis is an art exhibition showcasing 20 Florida-based artists. Genesis is an origin, a source, roots of a new beginning. This show reflects the past twelve months that were riddled with isolation, collective grief, and social injustices. Simultaneously, it encourages the recognition that the by-products from such a year include the overwhelming drive to foster a more progressive, mindful, and compassionate future. 2020 were the roots and we have the potential to bloom anew, together. Genesis 2021: New Beginnings will be showcased at CoCurate 244 from Monday February 1 until Thursday April 1 with in person viewing hours being those of SPC downtown.
